About Us

Introduction:

We believe Tai Chi exercise is a holistic strategy to help long COVID survivors to mitigate and overcome their symptoms. The World Health Organization (WHO) believe that most people who develop COVID-19 fully recover, but current evidence suggests approximately 10%-20% of people experience a variety of mid- and long-term effects after they recover from their initial illness. These mid and long-term effects are collectively known as post-COVID-19 conditions or “long COVID”. Read more about Long COVID here.

Taichi-DTx Legend:

Compared to their baseline symptoms after 4-week Taichi-DTx exercise, participants had a 45% improvement in fatigue (p=0.004), a 30% improvement in dyspnea (p=0.003), a 32% improvement in brain fog (p=0.003), and a 37% (p=0.036) improvement in overall symptom impact on daily life; The most important outcome, 66% of participants self-reported back to their normal daily workload and worktime.

Taichi-DTx exercise significantly reduced the common Long Covid symptoms:

Compared to non-Long Covid healthy (Group C) and Long Covid participants (Group A) with regular Tai Chi exercise, Taichi-DTx exercise participants (Group B) has shown statistically significant improvement in their Long Covid symptoms after 5 weeks.

Where did the idea of augmented Tai Chi exercise develop?

At the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic in 2020, GlobalMD organization has been tracing a lot of front-line doctors’ and nurses’ health conditions. Many were working around the clock for 2-3 days, some even for 7 days without a break. Some became infected.

After they recovered and went back to the workplace, many felt overwhelming fatigue, shortness of breath, and trouble with attention, memory, and slowed thinking. We tried to find a solution to help them recover. Being cognizant of the general benefits of Tai Chi, we suggested they practice Tai Chi in a sitting position that enabled them to take a short break from work.

Over time, we learned that the most common symptoms of Long Covid were fatigue, dyspnea, and brain fog. We invited 6 nurses with the most common Long Covid symptoms to try a pilot test for proof of concept: regular Tai Chi exercise with background music, pre-embedded with breath-controlled exercise and 40 Hz sound stimulation, later on, named it the Augmented Tai Chi/Taichi-DTx. To our delight, they felt better and reported that the Taichi-DTx was not at all uncomfortable.

Realizing that there are many thousands of Long Covid individuals, including lots of doctors and nurses suffering from fatigue, dyspnea, and brain fog, we designed an RCT trial to validate the hypothesis that augmented Tai Chi exercise could demonstrate significant improvement compared to sham control regular Tai Chi exercise.

We are pleased that the Taichi-DTx program is easy to access, proactive, low-cost, and suitable for almost all ambulatory ages, regardless of most pre-existing health conditions.
